Foundation donates backpacks, school supplies to 200 keiki

Two hundred keiki from Haleiwa, Waialua and Ko‘olauloa started the new school year with brand new backpacks and school supplies like notebooks, crayons, glue and more thanks to the Turtle Bay Foundation.

The nonprofit gathered $3,500 worth of goods for “Operation Backpack” with support of Turtle Bay Resort team members. Backpacks were distributed in Haleiwa with the help of the North Shore News volunteers and at the BYU Hawaii Back to School Bash for keiki in kindergarten to 12th grade.

“School supplies and backpacks are essential tools that help our keiki maximize their learning in the classroom and reach their full potential,” said Tom Donovan, vice president and managing director of Turtle Bay Resort and president of Turtle Bay Foundation.

“At the Turtle Bay Foundation, our top priority is supporting students on the North Shore as they pursue their education and dreams, whether it is providing scholarships to those attending college or rallying our employees to donate supplies to support our younger learners,” Donovan added.
